What to Know Before Visiting Citi Field

Citi Field is the New York Mets’ home ballpark at 41 Seaver Way in Flushing. It opened on April 13, 2009, replacing Shea Stadium as the Mets’ home park. The Jackie Robinson Rotunda is the main entrance for fans arriving from the 7 train station.

For a wider look at the area, you can pair a game with a visit to Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, or plan time for downtown Flushing’s food and streets. If you’re staying at Hotel Indigo: Flushing - LaGuardia By IHG, the ballpark is about a 20-minute walk away.

Tickets and Event-Day Entry

Plan to have your ticket ready before you reach the gate. Single-game tickets are accessed digitally through the MLB Ballpark app, and screenshots are not accepted for scanning. SMS text tickets are available for purchases made at Citi Field ticket windows.

The Mets say gates generally open 90 minutes before a game, though opening times can vary for doubleheaders, concerts, and special game dates. Ticket windows generally open four hours before first pitch and close at the end of the seventh inning for home games.

If you need help planning a trip, the Mets’ official transportation page offers a Citi Field Travel Assistant through its website and the MLB Ballpark app.

Tickets are not refundable. The Mets may allow exchanges when tickets become valid rain checks, subject to the applicable rain-check conditions. Groups of 15 or more tickets to one game can be arranged through the Mets Ticket Office, by phone at (718) 507-TIXX, or by email at groupsales@nymets.com.

Getting to Citi Field from Flushing

Getting to Citi Field from Flushing

The subway stop for the ballpark is Mets-Willets Point, served by the 7 train. From Hotel Indigo: Flushing - LaGuardia By IHG, Mets-Willets Point is about a 20-minute walk or about a 5-minute drive. The Flushing–Main Street station is another option for reaching the 7 train; it is about 6 minutes on foot from the hotel.

If you’re coming by train, follow the flow toward the stadium and the Jackie Robinson Rotunda entrance. The MTA says Mets-Willets Point is not an accessible LIRR station. If you have mobility impairments and are traveling by LIRR, go to Woodside and transfer to a Flushing-bound 7 train.

There is also an accessibility consideration for the return trip: the Manhattan-bound 7-train platform at Mets-Willets Point is not accessible. After an event, use the ramp to reach a Flushing-bound train to Flushing–Main Street, stay on board, and continue back toward Manhattan.

Parking and Drop-Off Options

Parking and Drop-Off Options

If you’re driving, the Mets’ general policy says Citi Field lots open two and a half hours before scheduled games or events. Parking designations can change because of construction, so allow time to follow the directions in effect for your visit.

Pregame drop-offs can be made along Seaver Way or Roosevelt Avenue. The listed rideshare pickup zone is in the Stadium View East parking lot beneath the highway, just north of the Shea Road and Boat Basin Place intersection. For Access-A-Ride, use the Bullpen Gate on Seaver Way for both drop-off and pickup.

Bag Rules, Accessibility, and Stadium Policies

Backpacks are prohibited unless they are totally clear and have no obscured interior pockets. Permitted bag styles include purses, non-backpack-style diaper bags, totes, drawstring bags, messenger bags, and small soft-sided coolers.

Bags and hand-carried items must be no larger than 16 inches by 16 inches by 8 inches. All are searched before entry, and there is no in-ballpark bag-check facility.

Glass bottles, metal cans and containers, and hard-sided coolers are prohibited. You may bring one factory-sealed plastic water bottle of 20 ounces or less, as well as one sealed, soft-sided child’s juice box per child. If you need a bag for ADA or medical reasons, an exception may be made by the Security Supervisor at an entry gate.

All entry points are ADA accessible. Guests who need accessible entry may use the Hodges, Seaver, or Stengel VIP entrances, regardless of whether their ticket provides VIP access. The ballpark has more than 800 accessible seat locations; each accessible seat can be purchased with one to three adjacent companion seats.

There are 11 guest elevators, and the left-field ramp behind Sections 129, 329, and 429 is available to all guests and connects to every ballpark level. Once you enter, plan carefully: re-entry is not allowed unless a Security or Guest Service Supervisor at your gate approves an exceptional circumstance before you leave.

Food and Amenities Inside the Ballpark

A gluten-friendly stand is in the World’s Fare Market behind Section 104. Its listed options include chicken fingers, fries, hamburgers, and hot dogs. Citi Field also has 15 family restrooms; Field Level locations include areas behind Sections 111, 114, 121, 124, and 130.

Planning Your Return to Flushing

Before leaving your seat, decide whether you’ll walk back to Flushing or take the 7 train from Mets-Willets Point. If you’re traveling toward Manhattan and need an accessible route, use the ramp to board a Flushing-bound train to Flushing–Main Street, remain aboard, and ride back toward Manhattan.

For a rideshare pickup, use the designated Stadium View East lot zone rather than assuming a curbside pickup is available.

Before you go, check the official site for the Mets’ current transportation, ticket, and stadium policy details.
